Australian Government Funding

Queensland Natural Disasters Jobs and Skills Package
In response to the devastation caused by flooding and Tropical Cyclone Yasi in Queensland, the Australian Government is providing a package of assistance to support Australian Apprenticeships.

Relocation Payment Initiative

A one-off initiative will provide a one-off payment of $3,000 to eligible, registered, out-of-trade Australian Apprentices who relocate to a flood or cyclone affected area to recommence their Australian Apprenticeship. The payments will be paid directly to the Australian Apprentice at the three month point after recommencement.

Tools and Work Equipment Payment

A one-off payment of $800 will be made to eligible Australian Apprentices whose tools or work equipment have been lost or damaged due to a flood or cyclone related event in a declared natural disaster area in Queensland. The payment will be paid directly to the Australian Apprentice.

Disaster Recovery Start-up Bonus

An additional payment of $3,350 made to small and medium-sized employers (less than 200 employees) and registered group training organisations (GTOs) in rural and regional flood and cyclone affected areas in Queensland who take on a new apprentice aged 19 years and under in a skill shortage trade apprenticeship between 7 March 2011 and 7 September 2011 (inclusive).

Support for Adult Australian Apprentices payment initiative
Financial support for Australian Apprentices or their employers if the apprentice is aged 25 or over at the apprenticeship commencement on or after 1 January 2010.

Australian School-based Apprenticeships Incentive
$750 commencement incentive for employers employing a school-based apprentice and $750 for continuing to employ them after the student has completed Year 12.

Tuition Fees
Employers get reimbursed for the cost of tuition fees paid to Registered Training Organisations or TAFE's.

Apprentice Recommencement Incentive
Up to $3000 for employers and Group Training Organisations who recommence an out of trade apprentice/trainee between 1 July 2010 and 31 March 2012

Skills Assessment & Gap Training
Funding is available for workers to have skills assessed and gap training to gain one of the following formal qualifications:

Post Trade - Electrotechnology
Funding to upskill existing workers in new industry practices, licensing and environmental requirements.

Post Trade - Plumbing and Draining
Funding to upskill existing workers in new industry practices, licensing and environmental requirements.

Productivity Places Program
Funding to support businesses upskill their workforce in Certificate IV qualifications or above.
