Government priorities and major initiatives
Queensland's labour market has fundamentally changed, requiring a fresh approach to skills development to meet current and future needs. Some of these needs are critical and require immediate action. Others are long-term issues requiring incremental shifts in training strategies and workplace culture.
The Queensland Skills Plan outlines a policy framework that will better match the supply of skilled labour to industry's needs and the economy's demands. It sets out 24 actions the Queensland Government will take to implement these policies.
The actions contained within the plan were developed through a process of consultation with a broad cross-section of Queenslanders.
The Queensland Skills Plan has four key areas:
- a training system that works for Queensland
- training that works for industry and employers
- training that works for the trades and
- training that works for individuals.
The government has incentives for employing and training apprentices and trainees, mature aged and indigenous workers, and people with a disability. For more information on funding and incentives visit the Department of Education, Training and the Arts website.
