Accommodation
There are several accommodation options available to international students.

Rental accommodation
Both Australians and international students enjoy living in rental accommodation. Renting a house or apartment gives you the chance to live on your own, or live with friends and share costs. Rental costs are often cheaper than homestay fees and range from approximately $140 to $240 for an apartment or house depending on its furnishings (if any), location, size and quality. Most rental properties are unfurnished, so you may need to rent or purchase furniture and items such as crockery and cutlery.
Student houses
There is no on-campus accommodation at SkillsTech Australia but there are a range of student houses throughout Brisbane.
Student houses provide shared amenities, with the privacy of your own room. Some student houses require you to cook your own meals but will supply your bed linen and cooking utensils. There is usually no bond or lease required for student houses.
The cost of student houses varies from approximately $80 to $180 a week, depending on the accommodation house, its facilities/services and the length of stay.
Homestay
This accommodation alternative offers you the chance to live with an Australian family, either for a few weeks or for the length of your stay in Brisbane.
If you are under 18 years of age and do not have a legally appointed guardian to care for you while you are in Australia, this is the option you must use. All homestay accommodation is inspected for quality of service and amenities.
The advantage for you is that you can move into an established home with all your basic needs (meals, furniture, bedding and amenities bills) taken care of by the host family.
Most homes are within walking distance of public transport or the family will arrange for you to be taken to transport.
Living with a family will also give you a chance to practise your English conversation skills.
All homestay families agree to provide their guests with:
-
their own room with a bed, study desk and lamp
-
two meals and a lunch box each working day (Monday to Friday) and three meals each day on weekends (Saturday and Sunday) and
-
help with finding your way around the city and interesting places to visit.
