Building, construction, plumbing and furnishing

With Queensland's resources boom and our rapid population growth, the demand for domestic and commercial building and construction skills continues to grow. As well, the State Government plans to spend $66 billion on new roads, bridges, railways and ports throughout the state over the next 20 years. 

As older workers retire, the industry continues to need a new, highly-skilled building and construction workforce to cope with the high demand predicted over the next two decades.

What are the building, construction, furnishing and plumbing trades?

The modern building and construction tradesperson works with a range of materials to build, fit out or renovate both small and large buildings and projects. This diverse industry uses a range of materials, both traditional and new. There is an increasing emphasis on the need for sustainable, environment-friendly housing and commercial construction.

Building and construction trade areas include:
